The Wasabi team has announced that their new modchip for the Nintendo Wii will be the first modchip to work on all Wii's (DMS, D2A, D2B, D2C). They claim that installation will be the easiest to install and only requires 9 wires for D2C drive.
Wasabi is not your typical Wii drivechip. Apart from all the usual features you'd expect from any good chip (including a working built-in GC audiofix), it sets new standards on many points:
- It's the first chip that works on all drives, from DMS to latest D2C drives (including GC2-D1A).
- It's the first D2C compatible chip that is upgradable from DVD.
- It's the easiest chip to install on D2C: only 9 wires, only 3 of them connected to a pin/via.
- It's the easiest chip to install on DMS and D2B as well: No need to use a dremel or super-glue with "cut-pin" drives, and there's no pin/via to solder even with the latest D2B boards.
- It's the first D2C compatible chip that is as clean as DMS/D2B drivechips: full control over the drive's firmware, no physical patching on the lines while the games are running. That means perfect stability, more control, and no stress on the drive's components.
- Best of all, it's the first chip to include a decent amount of flash memory (128KB) for firmware and data storage.
Technical Specifications- Direct boot of Wii and Gamecube original, import, and backup discs
- Supports all chipset versions: DMS, D2A, D2B and D2C (including D1A)
- Supports all regions, configurable via jumpers
- Fully upgradable from DVD (no external programmer required)
- Only 5 wires on DMS, D2A, D2B
- Only 9 wires on D2C (only 3 of them soldered to pin/via)
- Very easy installation on "cut-pin" drives
- On-board flash (128KB)
- Integrated Audiostreaming fix for GC games
- Excellent media compatibility (supports DL media)
- Works with SMG and SSBB
- Flash recovery mode
- Two LED for easy installation troubleshooting
- Full firmware control even on D2C chipset
- Drivecode symmetry between all chipset versions
- Compatible with all GC and Wii homebrew programs
- No extra wires required for region override
- No external switch required
The first batch of Wasabi will be shipped to retailers on the second week of March.

It seems that Divineo UK and other retailers such as Play-Asia (US / PAL / JPN) have added Datel's FreeLoader to their online store. It should be available in the next 10-15 days for the Nintendo Wii. Estimated release date is 3/14/08. FreeLoader uses proprietary technology to enable your Wii to play import games from any other region. Using FreeLoader you can now, for example, easily play U.S. games on a European Wii console, or play Japanese games on a U.S. console.

If you need additional Nintendo branded Mario Kart Wii steering wheels you won’t have to buy another copy of Mario Kart Wii. Nintendo plans on selling extra Wii Wheels on April 11, the same day Mario Kart Wii debuts in Japan. Each extra plastic steering wheel runs for 1200 yen ($11). Of course, Nintendo’s Wii Wheel isn’t required to play Mario Kart Wii. Ubisoft’s wheel or any 3rd party peripheral should work fine and so should a standalone controller.
With currency exchange rate, the US should costs approximately $15 for the peripheral once it debuts. But no word on US release.

To go along with the news we posted about the Dual Shock 3 being released in the US in April, here is some more news about MGS4 for the PS3 and God of war for the PSP:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3 Bundle
To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP).
As has been announced previously, MGS4 will include a Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.” If you can’t wait to try out MGS4, the good news is you don’t have to much longer. Those who pre-order the game will be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online scheduled for late April.
God of War PSP Entertainment Pack
In June, a new PSP Entertainment Pack will be hitting stores, featuring the famous face of the Ghost of Sparta — Kratos. Here’s what you get in the bundle, which will be available for $199.99 (MSRP):
* Limited-Edition “Deep Red” PSP with Kratos silkscreened on the back
* God of War: Chains of Olympus

The Wii-Clip aims to make Wii modding easier. Is simply an adapter that snaps on to the IC chip on the Nintendo Wii. The shape of the Wii-Clip is aimed towards D2C modchips. Simply solder the D2C to the Wii-Clip via pins and connect to the IC chip. No soldering or modding on the Nintendo Wii itself. It also seems that you would be able to do this with any other modchip as well, but you'll have to use wires.
Feature:- Support all WII-D2A and D2C standard chip board, very high install efficiency, you can finish all job in 2 minutes.
- Very easy to install, just need solder these very big pin to pin points first, then put it onto cover the D2C chip, plug and play.
- Very easy to disable the WII chip, just need remove (pull out) the WII-CLIP from the WII motherboard, not need any soldering anymore. This way can give back you the original WII console immediately.
- Very easy to upgrade the D2C chip, just need pull out the WII-CLIP form the motherboard, then use the new chip to replace the old one, and re-cover it onto the WII D2C chip, the upgrade job is done.
The website isnt eye-catching or appealing but it does have information on the Wii-Clip and images. However, no information as to how much this would cost. From the looks of the website and information, its available now.

NeoFlash MK6 Save Cart & NEO3 TF
Manufacturer: NeoFlash
Site: Buy from IC2005
Price: $59.00
Overview : Store your save game data on internal RAM. Make and play backups of your original games.
Features:- 1:1 Original small size
- Support all version of NDS & Lite
- NDS Brightness adjustable
- Support auto-sleep mode
- Simple plug and play
- Build in 4M Game Save
- Come with 4K/64K/256K/512K/2M/4M EEPROM hardware save mode
- Don't need battery, game save data can keep over 50 years
- Support NEO2/3 full serial, can backup your original NDS card by one click
- Universal boot, support almost third-party Slot-2 cart
Quality/Usability : Let me start of by stating that even though this is MK6 (MagicKey 6), this is not a successor of the MK5 that we reviewed a couple months back. This is just a Slot-1 PassMe device which allows you to store your save game data on to its internal RAM. The NEO3 (Slot-2; for SD or TF) allows you to make and play backups of your original games. We also want to note that we do NOT condone piracy.
The MK6 is just a simple cart design. The top has a groove as if there was a slot for a microSD but was blocked. The NEO3 looks weird. The top half has a plastic shell while the contacts is gutted and left out naked. Also, the top of the NEO3 sticks out slight from the cart as this is where the microSD is inserted. What I like about this, is that the slot is spring loaded. What I also noticed on the NEO3 cart is that on the bottom of the casing, where it begins to show the contacts, there is an opening on the plastic casing with the bottom part of the microSD slot sticking out. Couldnt they have added a millimeter or two, to the plastic to cover that up?
Included is a MK6 Save Cart, NEO3 TF and a miniCD. The miniCD contains all the required files needed but its best to get the latest files from NeoFlash as the files on the CD may be outdated. As for the NEO3, there are two versions. There is a TF which accepts microSD and SD version, which well...accepts SD cards.
The NEO3 will need to be setup in order for things to work. To setup the NEO3, you'll need to insert a microSD into the NEO3 and copy the latest version of "_boot_ds.nds" to the root of the microSD. As mentioned above, you can get this from the miniCD provided with the MK6/NEO3 or you can get the latest files from NeoFlash.
NEO3 wouldnt be a good choice to play backups even though it can backup your original games. Yes, it sounds contradicting but its the truth. It lacks and fails in the compatibility field. Homebrew files itself didnt work well either as there was no DLDI patcher. Even using NeoFlash's Homebrew Patcher & Burner Maker, I couldnt get majority of the homebrew to work.
Once the NEO3 is setup and you insert the MK6 into the DS and boot it up, this is where things get confusing. You are brought to a menu with options to select a save type (Boot GBA with 4K Save - Button Y; Boot GBA with 512K Save - Button X and Boot GBA with 2M/4M/8M Save - Button A), What do you choose?! No instructions are given. This should of been auto-detected and chosen for you automatically. The menu scrolling is backwards. If you press UP, the menu scrolls down. If you press DOWN, the menu scrolls up. The menu also seems a bit sluggish.
In order for the DS games to save, you have to set the save type by pushing the Lor R trigger at the start of the game screen. Once you choose the proper save type, the game will save to the MK6 but will run from the NEO3.
To backup your original NDS game, press the X button in the NEO menu. The system will then ask you to insert the original NDS cart and press the A button (OK) to continue. It will then start to dump your DS game onto the NEO3. Depending on game size, it takes about 5-8mins. Once completely dumped, swap the original DS game and place in the MK6. Press A and the game will begin to load. Having tested a couple of my games, I had no problems with any of the dumps.
Conclusion : Overall, the NeoFlash MK6 Save Cart & NEO3 TF to me is a waste of cash. I honestly do see a need for this except for dumping your original games, transferring the .nds and placing it onto any other Slot-1 flash carts such as M3 Simply, R4DS, EZ-Flash V or G6DS Real. There was no support for homebrew files as well as lack of instructions. The lack of auto-detecting the type of game saves is a disappointment as well. NeoFlash makes some great products for both the DS and PSP, but this is one product that they should of not released.
Please note that none of the "upgrade" products listed in this site are endorsed by Nintendo, Sony and/or Microsoft. DCEmu Reviews and DCEmu Network does not condone piracy. The primary functions of a "modchip" and/or "flashcart" are to allow you to play imported games and homebrew software that you legally own or simply just for experimenting with hardware. We in no way endorse piracy, and encourage all users to do the right thing and support the developers/manufacturers that support them. We do not take any responsibilities for any use outside of these parameters or where the use of such a device is illegal.

KontrolFreek SpeedFreek Joystick
Manufacturer: KontrolFreek
Site: Buy from KontrolFreek / Buy from Amazon
Price: $9.95 (pack of 2) / $17.50 (pack of 4)
Overview : SpeedFreek allows you to relax your thumb and not worry about sliding off the analog stick. With its unique design, SpeedFreek keeps your thumb on the existing analog stick surface. There is no separation between the natural geometry that you have learned to use. The additional supporting side walls enable quicker and sharper movements, while adding control and precision. As a result, gamers report less stress on their thumbs and quicker lap times.
Quality/Usability : As more and better racing games comes out (both in gameplay and graphics), gamers want that semi-real racing effect. Gamers will pay up to $150 for a steering wheel with force feedback. I have been a big fan of racing games since the days of Rage Racer and Gran Turismo. I got my first steering wheel peripheral when Logitech released the Driving Force Feedback Steering Wheel for Gran Turismo 3 on the PlayStation 2. Luckily, at the time of release, I worked Electronics Boutique and got the steering wheel for free for working on launch and meeting creator of the game, Kazunori Yamauchi.
With the expensive price tag for steering wheel, who can afford them considering games themselves cost $50-60 each. Not to mention, the size of these peripherals and the amount of room they take up. KontrolFreek aims to solve both the cost and size factor by offering SpeedFreek.
SpeedFreek is made of plastic and in the shape of a "U" or a half-pipe. The design is very simple and basic and comes in two colors; white and black. The SpeedFreek attaches to the left analog thumb-stick. There are prongs that attaches to the thumb-stick. The side rails provide extra leverage in racing games. Turning in corners and passing cars was smoother than ever. I no longer had to nudge the joystick in order to make the turn. With a slight move of the thumb-stick, I was able to squeeze into tight spots as opposed to using a regular thumb-stick and bouncing off cars like a pinball machine.
The packaging is eye-catching. As mentioned at the very top, you can purchase a pack of two or four. The SpeedFreek comes packaged in a plastic tube. Inside the plastic tube is the SpeedFreeks are holding instructions rolled up. This also helps the SpeedFreek stay upright and in place.
Conclusion : Overall, the KontrolFreek SpeedFreek Joystick works great for racing games. No more nudging of the thumb-stick. Now I have a can make smooth turns every time and it also improved my lap times. I tried the SpeedFreek with a FPS game such as Gears of War and GRAW2 and although it helped me with my aim and accuracy, it wasnt perfect. Whats great is that it works both on the PS3 and Xbox 360. If you're interested in the FPS version, be sure to order yours here.
