XCM Re-Mapper for Xbox 360
Manufacturer: XCM
Site: Buy from Play-Asia / Buy from Amazon
Price: $69.90
Overview : To some, the Xbox 360™ controller is most arguably the best controller, but the button location may not be the perfect place for some games. In order to fix this, you may need to re-map some buttons that will suit your preference and gaming style. What if you're left handed and like to use the left LT as your shooting trigger and RT trigger for throwing grenades or even switching weapons? The XCM Re-Mapper allows you to re-map ANY button on a wired Xbox 360™ controller (except SELECT, START and Guide button) making gameplay that much easier, enjoyable and playable now.
*You MUST use a wired Xbox 360™ controller. XCM Re-Mapper will NOT work with wireless Xbox 360 controller Play & Charge Kit.
Quality/Usability : Connecting the XCM Re-Mapper is pretty straight forward. First connect the Official Xbox 360™ wired controller to the USB port of XCM Re-Mapper. Then plug the XCM Re-Mapper USB plug to the Xbox 360™ console.
How to Use :
(1). For an instance, if you want the “LT” key to replace the “RT” key:
a. Press the “P” program button once. The program indicator will light up. The XCM Re-Mapper is now entering programming mode. The Manual On/Off switch function is temporarily non-functional.
b. Now press the silver printed word “RT” button on the XCM Re-Mapper. The “RT” button indicator will light up in red. The program indicator will begin to blink.
c. Press the yellow printed word “LT” button and the “LT” button indicator will light up in red. The program indicator will now stop blinking.
d. If you want to remap other keys, follow the above steps “b” and “c” until you are done remapping. If you are done with your remapping of buttons, finally press the program button “P” once. All the indicator lights will turn off and this will exit the programming mode. Now you have the new setting included from the above steps; pressing the “RT” key = “LT” key.
Note: the GUIDE key can not be programmed.
(2). Swapping the Left and Right analog sticks.
Press the program button “P” and the program indicator will light up. Push the Left or Right analog stick in any direction and the program indicator lights will turn off. The functions of these 2 analog sticks are now swapped. If this step is repeated again, the function of these 2 analog sticks will revert back to its default function. This swap procedure does not change the function of the RC and LC key. The UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT directions on the analog stick can not be swapped. This only swaps analog sticks. Left analog stick will now be where the Right analog stick is and the Right analog stick will be where the Left analog stick.
(3). Display the programmed buttons.
By pressing on the program button “P”, some of the programmed buttons will be light up in red. On the XCM Re-Mapper, press the program button “P” again to exit out of programming mode.
If you set the “LT” key to the “RT” key, “Y” key to the “X” key, when pressing on the program button “P”, the yellow printed words “LT”, “Y” and the silver printed words “RT”, “X”, will all be light up.
When using the Official wired Xbox 360™ controller, if pressing the wired controller “RT” key, on the XCM Re-Mapper, the silver printed word “RT” and yellow printed word “LT” will both be light up in the color blue. If pressing the wired controller “X” key, on the XCM Re-Mapper, the silver printed word “X” and yellow printed word “Y” button indicator will both be light up in the color blue.
Note: the setting will be saved for the next gameplay (ONLY for the same game)
(4). How to clear the settings.
a. If you want to clear a single setting, for instance: you had set “LT” key to replace the “RT” key, press the program button “P” once. The silver printed word “RT”, yellow printed word “LT” and program indicator will all be light up in red. Now press the silver printed word “RT” program button once. The program indicator will begin to blink, Press the silver printed “RT” program button again and the program indicator will stay red. The silver printed word “RT” and yellow printed word “LT” indicator will be off. Finally press the program button “P” to exit the programming mode.
b. To clear all the re-mapped settings, simply press and hold the program button “P” until the program indicator starts to blink. Release the button and the program indicator lights will turn off after 3 seconds. All the re-mapped setting are now cleared and reverted back to default settings.
Here is a video on how to use XCM Re-Mapper with Wired Xbox 360 Controller for Xbox360 as well:
What is nice about the XCM Re-Mapper is that you are able to update it if there is ever a new firmware released for it. You can check to see if there is any new firmwares or updates here. You can also find instructions on how to perform an update here.
Conclusion : Overall, the XCM Re-Mapper for the Xbox 360 does what it says. Yes, Xbox 360 games allows you to remap buttons but not all games do and if they do, they may limit you to what can and can not be mapped. The XCM Re-Mapper gives you full reign of re-mapping the buttons on your controller except for the SELECT, START and Guide button.
Unfortunately, in order to get this to work, you'll need a WIRED Xbox 360 controller. A Play and Charge Kit will not work. This seems to be a standard requirement for XCM adapters on Xbox 360 consoles even if it's just to activate the XCM adapter. If you already have other XCM adapters for the Xbox 360, you won't need to buy a WIRED controller. Third party controllers such as MadCatz, HORI and others will work but not all will. OEM Microsoft controllers is your safest bet. Another down fall is that you are unable to use a wired headset. So if you don't have a wireless headset already, you'll have to shell out additional money.

The Cobra USB dongle comes in a box that has a snake skin like look and is surrounded with foam for added protection. The Cobra USB dongle is available in 2 versions: one with firmware pre-installed and a blank version where the firmware will have to be downloaded from the Cobra USB website. You can download the required files and firmware here. For additional information on how to update or install your Cobra USB, you can also download the latest user manual from the link.
Before getting the Cobra USB to work, you must first installed the necessary drivers on your PC. Once you installed the drivers, you can update the Cobra's firmware. To update Cobra USB firmware, just drag and drop the update file into the cobraflash program. Wait for the update to complete and when asked, press ENTER to exit. It is important to not remove the device while the update is in progress.
Cobra 3.55 cfw installation (same method if newer cfw's are released)- Download the PS3UPDAT.PUP file of the cobra CFW. The MD5 of this file is 0922794CFB2FA4CB3DF71C8C3E391E08.
- Copy this file to any usb drive, in /PS3/UPDATE/ folder (create the folders if they don’t exist), and connect it to the PS3.
- If you are on a firmware prior to 3.55, including cfw, install the update using the XMB, remember to choose “Update via Storage Media”. Follow any instructions, and skip the next steps.
- If you are on firmware 3.55, ofw or cfw, in some consoles you will be able to update using the XMB. In other consoles, you will be given an error complaining that latest firmware is already installed. On those consoles, you will have to install cobra cfw in recovery mode. Next steps explain how to enter this mode.
- To enter recovery mode, power off the PS3. Keep the usb drive with the cfw pup as the only device connected to the PS3.
- Power on the PS3 keeping the power button pressed until the PS3 powers off.
- Power on again the PS3 keeping the power button, until you hear one beep followed by a double beep.
- You are now in recovery mode, connect a PS3 controller to any USB port, choose option 6 in the screen, and follow any other on screen instructions.
Note: Cobra CFW will behave like a 3.55 ofw if the PS3 is booted without Cobra USB connected. It is useless to install this CFW if you don’t have a Cobra USB device. Cobra USB requires certain binary files of the firmware not to be changed. Changing these files may make Cobra USB not to work at all, or to behave incorrectly. Changing fonts, xml, etc is fine, if the user knows what he is doing.
Advice: if you want to update the system again to install other firmware, we recommend to do it booting the PS3 without Cobra USB connected. It will probably work with Cobra USB connected too, but it is safer to update without Cobra patches present.
Jailbreak instructions- Firstly, you must install cobra 3.55 cfw. (Cobra no longer supports 3.41 firmwares)
- Your PS3 must be powered off. Unlike in previous versions, there is no need of a full power off, or removing any disc.
- Insert Cobra USB in the PS3. Make sure that it is in PC mode (switch in left position). Yes, PC mode. Since firmware 3.00, PC mode and jailbreak modes are equivalent, however, we recommend using PC mode for both jailbreak and cobra updates, downgrade position for factory service mode, and leave the jailbreak position (middle position) unused.
In PS3 models with four USB ports, don’t use the one in the left, except in the case that another USB device is also connected at the same time.
Unlike in previous versions, you can have other USB devices connected at booting time if you wish.
- Simply turn on the PS3 without doing any button combo.
- Cobra blue led will turn on for a short moment, followed by the red led blinking. After some time, green led will turn on and PS3 will be in Cobra mode.
When the Cobra USB is plugged into the USB port of the PS3, the logo on the dongle lights up in a bright white.
Installation of the Cobra Manager is the same as installing any package. Load the manager onto a USB storage device (not Cobra USB) via PC, load PS3 into jailbreak mode, insert USB storage device and “Install Package Files”. The Cobra Manager is similar to any other backup manager released for jailbroken PS3's. Cobra USB Manager loads PS3 game backups from the following directories:
- /dev_hdd0/GAMES
- /dev_hdd0/BDRIPS
- /dev_hdd0/GAMEZ
- /dev_hdd0/PS3ISO (for ISO backups)
- /dev_usbXXX/GAMES
- /dev_usbXXX/GAMEZ
- /dev_usbXXX/PS3ISO (for ISO backups)
And it writes game backups to:- /dev_hdd0/GAMES
- /dev_hdd0/PS3ISO (for ISO backups)
- /dev_usbXXX/GAMES
- /dev_usbXXX/PS3ISO (for ISO backups)
Making Blu-Ray backups- Start Cobra USB Manager from the XMB.
- Press square to change to Blu-Ray mode.
- Insert a Blu-Ray (BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE). It will appear at the beginning of the list.
- Select it, press circle, and choose the destination device from the list. Wait for the copy to complete.
Warning: although Cobra USB Manager allows original Blu-Ray movies to be copied, backups won’t work because of AACS copy protection. However, you can transfer these backups to your PC, decrypt them using some tool such as AnyDvd HD, DVDFab, etc, and transfer the decrypted ISO back to the PS3. If you have a Blu-Ray reader on your computer, you may want to do the full process there instead.
Playing Blu-Ray backups- Start Cobra USB Manager from the XMB.
- Press square to change to Blu-Ray mode.
- Choose the backup from the list and press X.
- Cobra USB Manager will mount the backup and exit. You can play your movie backup using the XMB player.
- When you are done playing the backup, you can start Cobra USB Manager again if you wish to unload the backup.
Cobra USB Manager uses the following directories to load/write Blu-Ray backups in ISO format:- /dev_hdd0/BDISO
- /dev_usbXXX/BDISO
ISO files can be split using the same naming convention used for game backups in ISO format. Blu-Ray backups are not limited to movies; any kind of ISO file having a file system recognized by the PS3 can be mounted as a Blu-Ray.
Making DVD backups- Start Cobra USB Manager from XMB.
- Press square twice to change to DVD mode.
- Insert a DVD-ROM, DVD+/-R or DVD+/-RW. It will appear at the beginning of the list.
- Select it, press circle, and choose the destination device from the list. Wait for the copy to complete.
Warning: although Cobra USB Manager allows original DVD movies to be copied, backups won’t work if they use CSS copy protection. In these cases, it is a better idea to do the backup in a computer using any program that removes CSS, and then transfer the unprotected backup to the PS3.
Playing DVD backups- Start Cobra USB Manager from XMB.
- Press square twice to change to DVD mode.
- Choose the backup from the list and press X.
- Cobra USB Manager will mount the backup and exit. You can play your movie backup using the XMB player.
- When you are done playing the backup, you can start Cobra USB Manager again if you wish to unload the backup.
Cobra USB Manager uses the following directories to load/write DVD backups in ISO format:- /dev_hdd0/DVDISO
- /dev_usbXXX/DVDISO
ISO files can be split using the same naming convention used for game backups in ISO format. DVD backups are not limited to movies; any kind of ISO file having a file system recognized by the PS3 can be mounted as a DVD.
Making PSX backups- Start Cobra USB Manager from XMB.
- Press square three times to change to PSX mode.
- Insert an original PSX game or a backup in a CD-R disc. It will appear at the beginning of the list.
- Select it, press circle, and choose the destination device from the list. Wait for the copy to complete. If the game only contains the data track, the backup will be in ISO format; if it contains more tracks, cue/bin format will be used instead.
Playing PSX backups- Start Cobra USB Manager from XMB.
- Press square three times to change to PSX mode.
- Choose the backup from the list and press X.
- Cobra USB Manager will mount the backup and exit. You can start the PSX game backup from the XMB.
Cobra USB Manager uses the following directories to load/write PSX backups:- /dev_hdd0/PSXISO
- /dev_usbXXX/PSXISO
Allowed format are:- ISO (mode 2/2352).
- Cue+bin. Data track must be mode 2/2352.
Cue+bin+wav is not supported: audio tracks in wav files are ignored.
Playing PSX backups in CD-R
Cobra USB allows PSX backups in CD-R discs to be transparently started from XMB without the need of Cobra USB Manager.
PSX region
Cobra USB bypasses PSX region for original PSX games, and backups in both CD-R and ISO/cue format.
However there is currently a frame rate issue, and NTSC games don’t play properly on PAL consoles and vice versa.
Making PS2 backups
This feature is mainly for backwards compatible models (CECHA, CECHB, CECHC and CECHE). PS2 mode won’t appear in other models unless the software emulator option is unlocked (see “Settings menu” section)- Start Cobra USB Manager from XMB.
- Press square four times to change to PS2 mode.
- Insert an original PS2 game or a DVD+/-R or CD-R backup. It will appear at the beginning of the list.
- Select it, press circle, and choose the destination device from the list. Wait for the copy to complete.
Playing PS2 backups
This feature is mainly for backwards compatible models (CECHA, CECHB, CECHC and CECHE), although PS2 backups can be loaded in other models if the software emulator is unlocked (see “Settings Menu” section).
Currently, PS2 backups can only be loaded from internal disc, and not from external drives or optical discs. You can however transfer backups between them.- Start Cobra USB Manager from XMB.
- Press square four times to change to PS2 mode.
- Choose the backup from the list and press X.
- Cobra USB Manager will mount the backup and exit. You can start the PS2 game backup from the XMB. Don’t forget that you must assign slots to virtual memory cards in the XMB if they aren’t already assigned.
Cobra USB Manager uses the following directories for PS2 backups:- /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO
- /dev_usbXXX/PS2ISO -> currently, only for transferring, not loading
Allowed format are:- DVD backups: ISO files with 2048 bytes per sector.
- CD backups:
- ISO files with 2048 or 2352 bytes per sector; CD backups with 2352 bytes per sector are more compatible.
- Cue+bin: Data track must be mode 2/2352.
Cue+bin+wav is not supported: audio tracks in wav files are ignored.
PS2 ISO backups are automatically unmounted when returning to XMB from the game.
Because of the special nature of the PS2 emulator, Cobra USB must be connected when exiting a PS2 game from the emulator menu. If Cobra USB is not connected, you will return to a normal not patched 3.55 XMB.
PS2 region
Currently, there is no support to load original games from different region. However, backups in ISO are region free, and the PS2 emulator successfully switches to the proper frame rate.
The regional lock of original discs doesn’t apply to making backups; you can backup your regional locked game and play the ISO backup.
Settings menu
Settings menu can be entered in Cobra USB Manager by pressing R1. Use left-right to change settings.
Currently, the following settings can be changed:- Blu-Ray region: you can fake here the region for blu-ray playback, allowing the playing of movies of different regions. This process doesn’t write anything in the system flash, region is only faked when starting the console with Cobra USB.
- DVD region: you can fake here the region for DVD-video playback, allowing the playing of DVD video of different regions. This only applies to RCE protected titles, standard DVD regional protection is already bypassed by Cobra USB. This process doesn’t write anything in the system flash, region is only faked when starting the console with Cobra USB.
- Games launch mode: you can change here how games are launched. XMB mode means that Cobra USB Manager will exit back to XMB when selecting a game and you must start it from XMB. In direct mode, Cobra USB Manager will launch the game directly, this may lower compatibility.
- PS2 Software emulator: this option appears only on not backwards compatible models. If enabled, users of these models can test ps2 original games and backups in ISO format using the PS2 software emulator.
This option is disabled by default because the software emulator doesn’t have much quality; it is slow and has several problems like virtual memory card not working, graphical glitches, and hangs. In ps3 slims, it has some additional problems, like controller only working if connected to an USB port.
Once this option is enabled, users of not backwards compatible models can follow the instructions in the PS2 sections to load and make backups.
Blu-Ray region, DVD regions and PS2 software emulator settings are saved on Cobra USB internal flash.
If you have removed Cobra USB, please insert it again before saving settings.
FTP
You can use FTP to transfer files to the PS3 from your computer. To activate FTP, press L1 on Cobra USB Manager.
In the PC, use an ftp client such as FileZilla.
In host field, type the IP address of your PS3. As username, specify CBUM01234. Password can be left blank.
Factory Service Mode
Factory Service Mode is used to perform operations like downgrade.
To enter factory service mode using Cobra, follow these instructions.- Power off your PS3.
- Insert Cobra USB in the PS3. Make sure that it is in factory service mode (switch in right position).
- Turn on PS3 and press eject quickly.
- Blue and green LED’s of Cobra will flash while booting, green led will be the final led on success. If you are on a regular ofw or cfw, the console will shut down. If you are on cobra CFW, the console will continue booting normally (unless it is semibricked, in that case it will stay on forever). In both cases, don’t worry, despite that, the PS3 flag that sets factory service mode will have been written, just shutdown your PS3 manually and next time you will be in factory service mode.
- You are now in factory service mode. Don’t connect Cobra USB while in factory service mode.
You can find tutorials on the internet to perform operations like downgrade, exiting factory service mode, etc.
Conclusion : Overall, the Cobra USB Dongle for the PS3 works as Cobra said it would. If you're still holding onto your precious 3.41 firmware, you're going to have to give it up. The Cobra Team released a Cobra 3.0 firmware pack. In this release they enabled the Cobra USB device on 3.55 via use of their own cfw. With this new firmware pack, it makes sense to no longer support 3.41. You should always be as updated as possible since older versions are no longer supported or would have compatibility issues. What I love about their custom firmware is that with the Cobra plugged in, it's jailbroken but when it's not plugged in, the custom firmware acts like an official firmware as if it was never modified.
Making backups of DVDs or Blu-Rays will require a little bit more of an effort thanks to the copy protection but the instructions are pretty straight forward. No other jailbreak dongles or known methods that I know of that allows you to backup movies from your PS3.
Own a E3Card or other jailbreak devices? I'm sure devs are currently working on reverse engineering Cobra's work to make it open sourced so that it is compatible with other dongles but with 2 releases already, it still hasn't been cracked. I guess Cobra has a good protection on it. With the PS3 scene being quiet, hopefully the Cobra Team will continue to release new and exciting features for the PlayStation 3.
3.55 isn't the latest firmware update so it will not play any of the new games the requires higher firmware until Cobra or someone jailbreaks Sony's latest firmwares. Also, there is still no access to PSN. So there is no online play. If you want online access, either forget about jailbreaking your PS3 or get a second PS3; one for jailbreaking and one for online and normal use.

Overview : Can't stay still? The RS-Sport will keep your gear safe and steady in even the most strenuous situations. Slide the camera up the strap to grab that perfect shot. With its sturdy design and under-arm safety tether, the RS-Sport isn't going anywhere, even if you are.
The BlackRapid RS-Sport Extreme Sport Strap is designed to hold and keep an SLR camera and lens steady in even the most strenuous shooting situations. Slide the camera up the strap to grab that perfect shot. The strap has an under arm safety tether that keeps the camera secure. It includes a CR-2 connector-2, FR-3 fastener-3 and a BRAD MOD that secures the camera to the strap.
Features :- Holds SLR camera with lens attached
- Under arm safety tether
- FR-3 fastener couples to connector-2
- CR-2 connector-2 a smooth swivel with a positive lock to ensure the safety of the camera and lens
- BRAD MOD secures the strap during action shots
Quality/Usability : Many people use the BlackRapid straps for different styles of photography such as family events, sports, wedding and studio work whether you're a professional, amateur or beginner. BlackRapid has different camera straps such as the RS-4, RS-5, RS-7, DR-1 Double Strap, DR-2 Slim Double Strap and RS-W1 Women's. Each are different from each other but they all serve the same purpose: hold your camera and doing it comfortably at the same time.
My camera gear consists of a Nikon D7000 DSLR (body only/body & kit lens), MB-D11 grip, SB-600 flash and a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lens. With all this attached, the camera can get very heavy after a long period of time. So getting a strap that is comfortable not only short term use but long term use is a major factor.
The newest BlackRapid camera strap to their line up is the RS-Sport. The RS-Sport is geared more towards photographers who are more active. The quality and craftsmanship you get in any of the R-Straps is also found on the RS-Sport. In addition to the new RS-Sport strap, BlackRapid has changed their packaging. No longer are straps shipped with a drawstring mesh bag but they now come in a box. This makes their product more professional looking and easier to display in stores.
The RS-Sport is worn diagonally across the torso from shoulder to hip and is adjustable to fit most photographers. The pad has a mesh underside for comfort and breathability. Rather than a straight design, the shoulder pad has a unique shape to it. The strap contours your body when its over your shoulder so you do not have to worry about the strap rubbing against your neck. To adjust the strap, simply rotate the strap to the front of your chest and pull on the strap or tug on the clip. This will loosen the strap to your desired length. Or you can just take the strap off the adjust. Due to the unique design of the strap, there is no zipper for storage. The RS-Sport also does not allow you to add any mods such as pouches onto the strap.
But what the RS-Sport does include that would need to be purchased separately for the RS-4, RS-5 and RS-7 is the BRAD mod. The BRAD is know as the BlackRapid Arm Defense. This goes under your arm and prevents the strap from migrating backwards. Since the RS-Sport is shorter in length compared to the other R-Straps, the BRAD sits a little closer to your armpit. If you don't have a need for it, you can remove it. The video below will give you more information about the BRAD.
To connect the R-Strap to your camera, it consists of two things: ConnectR and FastenR. The FastenR attaches to the tripod socket located on either the camera body or the lens. The ConnectR clip is strong, swivels smoothly and locks to ensure the safety of your camera. Once connected, the camera hangs upside down, resting securely at your side or in the small of your back, with the lens pointing behind you. Since the FastenR takes your tripod socket, your camera will no longer sit flat on the table and will have to be on its side or faced down. This also means no hand straps on your DSLR. If you own a tripod, it will get annoying as you will have to unscrew the FastenR from the camera, screw the camera onto the tripod. When you're done, just repeat the process in reverse order. However, if you own a Manfrotto 200PL-14 QR Plate, BlackRapid has a FastenR-T1 that replaces the screw on your quick release plate with a compatible BlackRapid version. This allows you to leave the QR plate on your camera at all times and use the R-Strap. When you need to mount the camera to the tripod, simply unclip the ConnectR from the T1 and slap the camera with the QR plate onto your tripod. No more having to unscrew and taking up your precious time.
On the strap, there are two plastic bumper clips...one near your chest and one towards the back. You can slide these up and down the strap. The purpose of the bumper clips is to prevent your camera from moving. Moving the one near your back down to your hips stops the camera from going further back but it also brings your strap back to its normal position if the strap migrates towards your back. Sliding the bumper near your chest all the way down to the bottom and behind, prevents your camera from moving. With this, you can walk around without having the fear of your camera moving around or smacking into things. When you need the camera, move the chest bumper back up and bring your camera up to your face and begin taking shots.
With the camera at your hip or behind your back, you can maneuver easily through a crowd, carry a tripod or other gear or simply have both hands free. When you’re ready to take the shot, the camera quickly glides up the strap into shooting position.
On June 25, 2011, my god-daughter was celebrating her 2nd birthday. With all the kids running around, I thought it would be a perfect time to try out the RS-Sport in a busy environment. When I needed the camera, getting it in shooting position was a snap. When it came time to running after munchkins, helping clean and carry things, this is where the strap outshines ALL other camera straps. I moved the chest bumper down to my waist to lock the camera in place and I was able to do things I normally wouldn't be able to do if the camera was in front of my chest with the strap hanging from my neck. I was also able to have my camera on my side, a drink in one hand and catch/throw a frisbee with the other. Even bending/kneeling for the frisbee on the ground, the BRAD strap held the RS-Sport in place.
All BlackRapid straps are compatible with all cameras with tripod mount whether they are Digital SLR's, Point and Shoot or video cameras whether its a Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, Sony, Casio, JVC, Kodak, Pentax and many others. So as long it has a tripod mount at the bottom of the camera, it will work.
Conclusion : Overall, the BlackRapid RS-Sport Camera Strap with FastenR-3 and ConnectR-2 is a must own camera strap if you're an active person (even if you're not). The BRAD definitely helps with keeping the strap in place and preventing the strap and camera from moving. Even if you're not active, the camera strap is very very comfortable. The distribution of weight is so perfect that you probably won't notice it and you definitely will not be in pain. Of all the things I own, this is my #1 favorite camera gear (besides my camera).

Quality/Usability : Although this review isn't a videogame product, it has its fair share of use in the industry and more. Going to special events, conventions or even just family functions, I bring my camera with me whether its my Canon point and shoot or my Nikon DSLR camera. I have a wrist strap on my Canon and the neck strap that came with my Nikon. With my Canon, I find myself having to put the camera down or putting it away when I need to use both my hands. This can be annoying as I might drop it or forget where I put down my camera.
With my Nikon, the neck strap can put a strain on my neck especially if I have it on for a long period of time. Not to mention, the camera and lens can get in the way since its in front of my chest. If I'm walking, I can bump into a wall, door or person since the lens sticks out. And when you're at a convention with over 7,000 people and 20 or so people crammed around a representative trying to take video/picture and seeing what they are showing off, it can be dangerous to your gear. Even if I'm bending over to get something, the camera just dangles from the neck and can smack into a table or even the floor. Neither are good especially if you have expensive lens on your DSLR. Not to mention trying to eat/drink without dropping something on your camera and holding your camera at the same time.
The RS-7 comes in a drawstring mesh bag (new packaging will be in a box when current stock is sold out) and is worn diagonally across the torso from shoulder to hip and is adjustable to fit most photographers. The pad has a mesh underside for comfort and breathability. Rather than a straight design, the shoulder pad has a curved designed. This contours your body when its over your shoulder. I tried their RS-4 which has a straight design and noticed that at times, it would sometimes get close to my neck after a certain period of time. It does not bother me but imagine wearing a shoulder bag. The straps are straight when worn diagonally.
Unlike the RS-4 and RS-5, the RS-7 does not have any zippered pockets to store business cards, ID, money or cellphones. If you want to store stuff on the strap, you would need to purchase the JOEY1 or JOEY2 (more information below). To install these, you will need to release the quick release clip on the back of the strap. Slide the JOEY over the strap and take the split ring on the JOEY and connect it to the loop on the front of the strap. You can also daisy chain them if you need more storage space. The clip on the back also allows you to adjust the size of the strap. I'm probably not the only one that thinks this but the quick release clip on the back is a big design flaw. Why? Since its on your back, its hard to reach and a potential prankster or thief can come up behind you, unclip it and steal or drop your camera on the floor. There are ways to prevent such a thing from happening is to use zip-tie to secure it in place (looks a bit tacky unless you use black) or purchase their BUCK mod which essentially is a wrap around velcro cover. It will prevent theft, would-be pranksters and even from you from using it unless you unvelcro it. However, once you have the strap adjusted to the correct length or mods installed, you have no need for the clip. Even when using the strap, you'll be taking it off over your head.
If you're a more active person or after having purchased an R-Strap and noticed that the strap moves a lot, you may want to consider purchasing the BRAD. It is also known as the BlackRapid Arm Defense. This goes under your arm and prevents the strap from migrating backwards. This works on all R-Straps except the RS-Sport since it is already included. The video below will give you more information about the BRAD.
Conclusion : Overall, the BlackRapid RS-7 Curved Camera Strap with FastenR-3 and ConnectR-2 is an excellent product. I no longer have to worry about neck strains or fear of damaging my camera or camera lens. The curved strap makes the strap even more comfortable. However, due to the curved strap, this may be the reason why there are no zippered pockets and requires you to purchase a JOEY. But the ability to add what you want and additional mods and add-ons are great. I can wear the RS-7 all day and not be in pain. Majority of the time, I barely noticed I even had the strap on. You're also not limited to a specific camera. If you have another camera, you can purchase the FastenR separately and mount that to a 2nd or 3rd camera. When you need those, just unclip the ConnectR from your 1st camera and clip it to your other cameras. What I love about the strap is that I can now leave my camera by my side without having to put it away and still enjoy my food/beverage.
The location of the quick release clip on the back of the strap is in such a bad place and is easily accessible to pranksters or thieves but not to the owner. I can see why they added it since there is no storage and its used for adding mods but I'm sure they could of thought of another method. For a more professional and semi-hassle free method of protection, you can buy the BUCK mod. If you don't want to spend additional money, you can just use zip-ties. Just make sure to add what you need before putting the zip-ties or you'll end up cutting off the old one and putting new ones on.
Not everyone owns a Manfrotto 200PL-14 QR Plate. But I would love to see a new FastenR that lets you connect to a tripod or monopod without having to remove the FastenR everytime.

Quality/Usability : Everyone these days has a digital point and shoot camera. We either use a camera strap (neck or wrist), a carry case or both. However, when we need our hands to be free to do something, we either have to put the camera down, put it away or just fumble and drop our cameras while trying to put it away. Even with a hand strap, the camera dangles and will bang around knocking things.
What if there was a way to let it dangle, put it away without fear of dropping it and still be able to use our hands freely? BlackRapid has the perfect product for you. The BlackRapid SnapR 20. The SnapR is a 3-in-1 bag which consists of a bag, sling strap and a hand strap.
First, lets talk about the bag itself. The bag fits cameras up to 5.25" x 3.25" x 2" which is pretty much majority of them on the market. It's made of durable nylon material and has a removable shoulder strap. The strap has a thin comfortable shoulder pad that is also removable. The shape of this pad accommodates both left and right shoulders and has a rubber lining on the underside to prevent slipping. The bottom of the bag also has a rubber lining. The opening where you place the camera inside is not your typical zipper opening from the top of the bag. Instead, its on the side...not where pocket compartments usually are but under the one end of the shoulder straps. There is however a pocket on each side of the bag to hold your passport, ID, money, phone, memory cards, etc. Also included are 2 mini BUCK versions for the clips for the strap. These prevent unwanted thieves or pranksters from unclipping the clips causing your bag to far or even be stolen.
Included is a stainless steel fastener known as the FastenR-SnapR that attaches to the tripod socket on the bottom of your camera. This is similar to the the FastenR-3 for bigger cameras but a smaller version. To attach the FastenR to the camera, simply twist it on until its tight. It's that simple. The FastenR-SnapR has a loop that allows you to thread a male buckle strap to which then connects to a female buckle that is attached to the strap of the shoulder strap on the camera bag. With this configuration, it allows you to let the camera hang down without the fear of dropping it or holding it when you don't need to. When you need to take a picture, simply grab the camera, slide it up and snap your picture.
Now on to the sling strap. The sling strap is what makes the SnapR stand out from the rest of the camera bags. The SnapR allows you to take the shoulder strap off the bag and connect both ends of the clip together to make one round strap. The concept is the same as the above configuration but this time, no bag in the way. Its just the shoulder strap and camera. This now acts like a strap similar to the more popular RS-4, RS-5, RS-7 and RS-Sport.
Lastly, if you feel the need to have a little more freedom, there is always the hand strap. Yes, can use the hand strap that came with your camera but why have two straps hanging from your camera? To convert to the hand strap, simply unbuckle your camera from the shoulder strap and attach it to the wrist strap that is included with the SnapR. Once you're done, unbuckle the wrist strap and store it inside the bag. However, with the FastenR-SnapR attached, you're unable to stand the camera up. You'll have no choice but to lay the camera flat either lens down or LCD down. But if you must have the camera standing up, simply untwist the FastenR from the camera. The wrist strap has a buckle that slides to tighten and loosens around your wrist. What I did not like about this method is that it can be a little hard to tighten and loosen since you're doing it with one hand. A good substitute if possible would be using a bumper that is found on R-Straps.
I took the bag to Medieval Times to celebrate my birthday with my friends. I took along my Canon S1000 point and shoot digital camera. With the camera and bag, it was very comfortable. I barely noticed the bag was on me. The SD1000 measures approximately 3.5" x 2" x 0.75" and there is still a lot of room inside the camera bag. Taking the camera out of the bag was very easy and I was able to do it with one hand while the other was holding my drink. The arena can get dark at time and I was able to get the camera out when needed. Even just letting the camera hang was perfect. I didn't have to fiddle with getting the camera out. We took a group picture with our knight (GO BIG RED!) and I had to hand my camera off to a work. A simple detach of the clip was a cinch and no need to hand off the entire bag.
All BlackRapid straps are compatible with all cameras whether they are Digital SLR's, Point and Shoot or video cameras whether its a Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, Sony, Casio, JVC, Kodak, Pentax and many others. So as long it has a tripod mount at the bottom of the camera, it will work.
Conclusion : Overall, the BlackRapid SnapR 20 Point and Shoot Camera Bag Strap is a must have for all point and shoot camera owners. I've ditched the included wrist strap that came with the camera. I even feel bad for the camera case that I bought separately to the side since it has been replaced with the SnapR. I'm sure I can find a use for that camera case...or maybe not. The SnapR is perfect for friend and family functions, vacations or even a nice stroll through the park. It doesn't get in the way and it feels comfortable on the shoulders. The build quality and craftsmanship is top-notch.
If you have a bigger point and shoot where it has swappable lenses or where the lens sticks out and doesn't retract, BlackRapid recently released a bigger midsized SnapR known as the SnapR 35. This new bag fits cameras up to 6" x 3.75" x 3.5.

To celebrate the October release of Forza 4, Microsoft is also releasing a new racing wheel: The Xbox 360 Wireless Speed Wheel.
According to the press release it's "controlled intuitively" and features haptic feedback with rumble. There are also trigger buttons for gas and brake and "green bands of lights on each handle to provide visual cues when necessary".
The device will be compatible with all racing games out of the box, including Forza and old titles that used the old wired, clunky steering wheels. The wheel will also support Kinect. However the small print reveals there will be "limited functionality in some games".
The Wireless Speed Wheel, will have a worldwide launch in early October. There's no word on a European price yet but it'll cost $59.99 (around £35) in the US. No news if the new wheel will be featured in any bundles with Forza 4 itself.
